LifeBUILDERS focuses on strengthening our surrounding community
in 3 major ways.
What started out as a childcare for our women's bible study is now a full children's program. We started with 12 kids and in 2 years time our program has grown to over 120 youth. By placing a greater focus on the kids in our community we're also meeting more moms and dads! Our focus on Empowering The Youth is currently made up of two classes.
KidBUILDERS is for girls and boys ages 6-11. The program focuses on planting the word of God in the hearts and minds of each child. The class is made up of 9 week sessions in the fall, winter and spring. Most of our children are not churched and know nothing about the word of God. H20 is for teenagers ages 12-18. The program focuses on planting the word of God in the hearts and minds of each teen. The teens from our neighborhood are in desperate need of the Lord. H20 also offers workforce training, field trips, fellowship, small groups, and lot's of fun. Contact us for more information or to get involved with H20.
Our focus on Reclaiming Our Neighborhood is a challenging but necessary step in the process of turning our community around. What started as 1 house has expanded to 4 single family homes two 8 unit apartment complexes and a resale shop. Expanding our footprint represents stability it shows our neighbors that we are here to stay. They have grown to trust in LifeBUILDERS because we're here. They see us as not only as a provider of high quality property, but as a source for encouragement and hope. We are enlarging the presence of light in our community and we're here to stand with our neighbors against the darkness. Communitas is an unstructured community in which people are equal. It's the very spirit of community. That's what LifeBUILDERS is building on the East side of Detroit. It's not about being poor or rich, it's not about what you have or don't have. It's based on the belief that we are all individually loved by God and are beneficiaries of his grace. Communitas is about building relationships; relationships formed over a cup of coffee or collaboration on a home improvement project. When relationships are made our community becomes much stronger. Our Resale Shop is a key part of this Communitas. What was once a drug house next door to our community center has become a mentoring work environment for those living in our community, a great place to talk and pray together and it supplies useful items to our community. The courtyard of our apartment complex, donated by The Home Depot Foundation, offers a great place for people to come together and share encouragement with.
